Blog 6

So far this experience I have had with IQUEST has been nothing but great.  The fact that I get out of school at 12:35 is such a great advantage.  I have been improving on everything I have set my mind to and I don't have to go to school!  How great is that?! I get to do the thing I love everyday and I get school credit for it.  There is not a better class I have ever taken in my life.  I thought maybe I would get lazy and sometimes not strive to complete my goals but so far I have not let anything stop me.

There are challenges along the way and I have come across some.  Sometimes I just "do not feel like doing anything" but I just remember that everyone else is still at school.  I figure if they are going to be at school, I might as well be doing something productive.  One of the most gratifying part of my journey was last week.  Signing my National Letter of Intent was one of the most satisfying moments of my life.  My hard work finally paid off and now its time to keep doing what got me to this place.

The people that have helped me out the most throughout this journey deserve a lot of credit.  My coach Erik Johnson is the one person that has helped me more than anyone else and I wouldn't be where I am without him.  My family obviously have been there the whole time by my side and without them as well I would not be where I am but that goes without saying.  Nick Moroney is with me everyday and I like it sometimes because he is great friend and a great workout partner.  Sometimes he is annoying but I get over it.  I love this class and I am thankful for the opportunities it gives me!

Pete Rose

I chose to do my project on Pete Rose.  He was a major league baseball player and is arguably one of the greatest to ever play the game.  The way he played the game earned him the nickname "Charlie Hustle".  Without even doing any research I think anyone would be interested in learning more about someone with that kind of nickname.  My uncle who played minor league baseball loved Pete Rose and would always talk about him to me when I was growing up about how he played the game at such a high level at all times and that I should also do the same if I ever want to be good.  I have tried to take that advice my entire life and so far it has payed off extremely well.

I have an idea of who Pete Rose is as a player but what I am more interested is who he is off the field and how he became so great.  I want to learn about his early life and see if it compares at all to mine.  If it does great, if not then so be it! One thing I do know off the top of my head about Pete Rose is that he is the all time leader in hits in the major leagues.  He got more hits than anyone has ever got in the history of the game.  A game that has been played for over one hundred years!  There is clearly a lot I still need to learn but I feel that it will be easy because of my genuine interest on the topic.  I can't wait to get started.

Responibility

Responsibility is something that can positively impact everyday life.  I believe that in order to be responsible there are many other qualities that are important to have.  The other qualities like trustworthiness and respect are a large part of responsibility.  They allow other people to allow you to be responsible.  Nobody is going to put anything on anyone else if they cannot trust them; therefor there is no opportunity for responsibility.
In order to be responsible someone must have a high maturity level.  I would like to think that I am very responsible because I am able to do things and take care of people when I am needed.  Making good and smart decisions can be a sign of responsibility as well.  Anyone who can make a smart decision in an environment that is easy to make bad ones is responsible in my eyes.

There are many great qualities in people that make them who they are but responsibility is something that separates good people from great people.  I think that a large part of what makes people responsible is how they are raised.  Parents have many great opportunities to teach valuable lessons about responsibility.  In my life, that is where I have been taught the most about everything and along the way they have taught me how to be responsible.

SUPERHERO BLOG!

This year I would like to have a superpower that would increase my productivity and my stamina.  My superhero is Elastalong!  Elastalong's powers allow me to never get tired and never run out of energy.  My motivation would be at 100% no matter what the situation.  School and life can be hard sometimes, Elastalong would eliminate the problem of getting tired or not wanting to do boring tasks that need to be completed.  As a senior it would help my attitude because it is easy to get lazy.  The powers would also help me with baseball; my passion!  The extra stamina and energy would benefit me immensely.  I would be able to workout and practice for hours.
The first power, energy is extremely important.  Energy is the backbone of almost everything.  Without it there would be nothing.  The most successful people in the world are usually the ones with the most energy and willingness to get stuff done.  Any boss or employer would rather hire the candidate with energy and pride than the candidate with low energy.  High energy does not only benefit the person who has it but it also inspires others around them to become more productive.  The more energy, the more production!
Stamina is another one of Elastalong’s powers.  Stamina is what allows energy to become useful.  The longevity of production and fight is something that can truly impact people.  The ability to do something for a long time and not lose focus would allow me to get so much work done without even knowing it.  Working would become easy and I would have extra time for fun.  Elastalong is something that would benefit all humans.
Elastalong is a superhero that I actually think is possible to be created.  Im sure some scientist in the future will find a pill or system to enhance the human body so that they will never run out of energy and have unlimited stamina.  The future is bright for Elastalong!

Intro

My name is Joey Spears and I am a senior at San Ramon Valley High School.  This year in IQUEST I am perusing my passion of baseball.  In order to get better at the game I love so much I am going to use my time to practice and train throughout the school year.  My goals are to simply get better, and in order to do that I have set some preliminary goals.  Every week I plan on taking a rang of 400-500 ground balls and swings. By doing this every week I anticipate to improve immensely.  My mentor throughout this year will be Erik Johnson, an ex major league baseball player that has worked with me for years and helped me get to where I am today.  I will be attending Stony Brook University next year to play baseball and want to use my time this year to fully prepare me for what is to come.  I am exited for this year and can not wait to get started!
